Faculty have the publisher's permission to use the textbooks and any accompanying instructional materials to facilitate their course if:

• They have adopted the textbook for their course

• Their students are required to purchase the textbook

This is only a general rule. Faculty must continue to use the Fair Dealing Guidelines and the Fair Dealing Factors to guide their work.

The Fair Dealing Guidelines indicate that making available single chapters of books and full journal articles to students is considered "fair". This content can be provided to students in the following ways:

• • Handouts
  • Posting to the Learning Management System (LMS) - Desire2Learn
    • Note that published material must not stay on the LMS, and must be removed 30 days after marks are released.
  • Projecting onto a screen using software like PowerPoint
  • Sending directly to students, for instance scanning and emailing documents

If faculty intend to directly include printed material in coursepacks and sell through the Bookstore, Fair Dealing does not apply. Please see Coursepack information for more detail
